Testimonials

"From the moment we arrived at Chateau Bandello it was clear that we had been extraordinarily lucky to find such a beautiful and tranquil place. We felt immensely privileged to be entrusted with what is clearly a well loved family home, beautifully furnished and equipped, with none of the usual hallmarks of a holiday letting. We have stayed in some lovely holiday homes in the past but none of them has come close to matching Bandello, which exceeded our expectations in every respect. We really appreciated all the information sent to us prior to our holiday but, to be honest, most of our week was spent at the house where everyone could find things to do together or just find some space to read and relax. The children enjoyed being able to play football and rugby in the grounds and loved the swimming pool and table tennis. The library was a real favourite as a cosy space for the children to wind down and have a story after a day full of activity. The veranda was a delightful space for our family meals but we also enjoyed our trips to the night markets where we were very happy to share in the experience of dining al fresco with the local people. We left this magical place with considerable reluctance but with some very happy and indelible memories. Many thanks also Jack, from Anglo French Properties, who did a sterling job in helping us find such a lovely place for our special celebration and whose advice and reassurance throughout was very much appreciated."

"I will never forget my first night sitting by your pool, in awe of how beautiful it all is. Thank you for being so open and warm, it is this kind of experience that will make our Europe trip so memorable."

Garden and Grounds

Two stone pillars mark the entrance to Chateau Bandello. An avenue of hornbeam trees line the drive which quietly descends to the chateau. The drive passes through a belt of woodland before opening out to the rear (entrance) of the chateau. A large pear shaped grass area forms a lawn encircled by driveway and occupied by a mature chestnut tree and a family of acacia trees.

There is ample parking to the rear (north side) the chateau which can be entered by a formal front door or by a side entrance that leads into a utility room behind the kitchen.

The chateau was once the principal house of an estate of c 2000 acres. The land surrounding the Chateau now comprises some 50 hectares with the chateau at its centre. The chateau orientates to the south where French doors open onto a raised stone terrace running the full length of the chateau.

Splayed steps descend onto a formal grass lawn with the stone fountain at its centre. From this point is a wonderful view down an avenue of lime and maple trees flanked by grass meadows. There is a folly (Pavillon de Musique) situated at the end of the avenue. The pavilion is built on a raised citadel the southerly views from which are magnificent.

A door from the kitchen leads onto a small breakfast patio from which steps ascend to a magnificent loggia (11m x 5m) which can be used for dining or relaxing in the shade. Here there are wooden tables that can be set up to seat as many guests as required.

The loggia looks down into the swimming pool framed by ancient stone walls and forms part of the complex adjoining the old chapel.

Swimming Pool and Surrounding area

The filtered alarmed swimming pool (not heated) measures 6m x 12m and is framed by the stone walls of a former barn complex that give it protection and privacy.

The swimming pool is 2.5m at the deep and 1m at the shallow end.

The pool is surrounded by a paved area which extends to form a large patio / terrace on which are a selection of sun loungers and pool side furniture. This area is overlooked by an orangery which is used as a solarium / conservatory for relaxing.

The solarium measures 8m by 5m. It contains sofas and speakers for a sound system. It also has a small kitchenette with sink, simple two ring electric cooker and small fridge.

At the far end of the swimming pool area steps descend into a garden area planted with flowering shrubs, Cyprus pines and an olive tree.  A further garden area with formal hedges and a young avenue in the form of a cross and lawn areas extend further.
