The Kitchen: The door into the kitchen is the main everyday entrance from the outside. It has a dining area with a table table seating 10 to 12. The kitchen part is cleverly built into a stone vaulted ceiling. It has two dishwashers and a sink under windows that overlook the swimming pool. It has 5 gas rings and two ovens. There is a good selection of cookware, crockery and cutlery. There are coffee presses and a filter coffee machine. There is a large fridge freezer.

Next to the kitchen is an “arrière cuisine” built into another stone arch. It has a further selection of cooking equipment as well as a microwave and additional fridge. There is also a “dumb waiter” here, extremely helpful for getting food up to the main dining terrace.

Sitting Room: There is a large stone fireplace around which are two sofas and an armchair. There is a dining table seating up to 8 people. This is a lovely light room with two sets of doors leading outside to a little courtyard with a coffee table surrounded by plants.

Games Room: On the first floor there is a large room with access onto the main dining terrace. It has table tennis and two sofas. This would also be a good space for yoga etc.

The main room as you enter this separate apartment has a double basin and a fridge. This is useful as it is so close to the main dining terrace. It has an arm chair and two additional chairs. The three bedrooms in this apartment share one bathroom.

The first room you enter is a small kitchen with a sink, an oven and 4 gas rings.

There is limited cooking equipment in this kitchen. The kitchen then leads into a large sitting area through a stone arch, with a sofa and two arm chairs.

There is one bathroom for the three bedrooms in this apartment. The bathroom has a basin and a shower and a separate WC.

The first floor has four terraces built into the structure of the house. On the north eastern side of the house is a terrace (which is particularly enjoyable in the early evening) has a table one end and a seating area with a set of rattan furniture the other end. The terrace is framed by a low wall and stone arches to enjoy shorter views of the land and hillside belonging to Le Mas Saint Paul and longer views to the distant lower lands of the Ardèche.

First Floor Terraces

The dining terrace is the magnificent feature of the first floor. It runs the full length of the inner wall between the two wings of the house and looks down impressively through pillars and a balustrade to the swimming pool below.

The table on the dining terrace seats any number up to 20 on a long table with separate seating area to one end. There is a “dumb waiter” / food lift from the kitchen on the ground floor to bring up food etc to this terrace on the first floor.

The pool terrace and swimming pool dominates the ground floor of Le Mas Saint Paul and is a remarkable design feature created with extraordinary vision by the owners. The pool itself measures 19 m x 5 m. It is 1.45 at the shallow end and 1.9 at the deep end. Wide stone steps lead gently and attractively down into one end of the long side around which is a generous paved area beneath the dining terrace with ample space for sun loungers.

A quarter of the length of the pool is covered by a stone arch spanning the width of the pool and within the structure of the building. With large open windows to the views beyond. This end of the pool can also be entered from the large pool room which contains a shower, benches and a WC. An arched terrace adjoins this.

At the other end of the pool terrace is an entrance into the kitchen of one of the self-contained apartments.

There are no formal gardens at Le Mas Saint Paul which is surrounded by its own land. Much of this comprises the semi natural woodland of the area and is dominated by a ridge viewed from the dining terrace and swimming pool and a high point best viewed from the north terrace.

The nearer grounds fall over a number of grass terraces to the wild meadow beneath. Le Mas’ garden is the unadorned natural landscape that surrounds it.

Le Mas Saint Paul is designed and orientates to look out over its own land rather than towards the “hamlet” behind it and of which it forms a part.
