Ideal Provence location

The House and Accommodation

The house has been recently renovated by its current owners with incredible style and attention to detail. The house has fantastic architectural features such as the vaulted ceilings of the sitting room and the kitchen dining area which are both beautiful and  practical, given they keep so cool in the summer months and warm in the winter. There is every modern luxury one might need or want. All the bathrooms are ensuite.

Reception room / TV room First floor: On arrival, the entrance to the house is on the first floor with the reception room immediately to the right, chandelier lit with two sofas surrounding a large stone open fireplace that can be lit in the winter. There is a flatscreen TV in this room. A minstrels gallery  looks down into this room. Adjoining is a WC.

Kitchen / Dining Room: The kitchen is on the lower ground floor. This is a fantastic large open plan room built into the “cave voutée” of the property making it incredibly cool in the heat of the summer.

There is a large island, two dishwashers and a large dining table seating 12 comfortably.

The kitchen has a SMEG coffee machine, kettle, toaster and orange juicer, as well as a Nespresso coffee making machine. There are 5 gas hobs, one large fridge freezer, an oven and a microwave. There are a large selection of pots, pans, crockery and cutlery, plenty for the number the house accommodates.

The Sitting Room – Lower Ground Floor: The sitting room is truly exceptional. The ceiling is entirely vaulted in exposed original stone. There is a door that opens onto the terrace at the front of the house. The comfortable sofas are orientated towards a large flat screen TV or towards a large stone open fireplace. A great room all year round.

Main House – Bedrooms and Bathrooms

Bedroom 1: First floor – Double Bed with ensuite Bathroom.  

This bedroom has a kingsize double bed with ensuite Bathroom.

The bathroom has a basin, freestanding bath, a walk-in shower and a WC.

 

Bedroom 2: First Floor – Double Bedroom with ensuite Bathroom.

This bedroom has a kingsize double bed with ensuite bathroom. It has a handsome wooden bed head and 3 windows facing in two directions over the meadows that surround Les Pres Blancs.

The ensuite bathroom is accessed through a charming set of old wooden French double doors. It has a freestanding bath with overhead shower, double wash basins and WC.

 

Bedroom 3: Second floor – Double Bedroom with ensuite Bathroom

This is a kingsize double bedroom with wrought iron bedframe. It has windows on two sides looking over the meadows and pastures.

Its ensuite bathroom has a walk-in shower, basin and WC.

 

Bedroom 4: Second floor – Twin Bedroom with ensuite Bathroom

Two large single beds with an ensuite bathroom.

The bathroom has a walk-in shower, a WC and a basin. This bedroom has one window overlooking the pool.

Bedroom 5: Second floor – Double Bedroom with ensuite Bathroom

King size double bed. This bedroom has windows on two sides.

The ensuite bathroom has a freestanding bath with overhead shower, basin and WC.

The Annexe and Accommodation

A short distance from the house is an annexe with a further two bedrooms.

There is also a small “arrière cuisine” adjoining annexe Bedroom 2, with microwave, fridge, oven, two hobs and a sink. This room, being semi self-contained with it’s own little kitchenette, would be very suitable for a nanny or family help.

 

Annexe Bedroom 1 – Twin Bedroom with ensuite Bathroom ground floor.

There are two large single beds with access onto the terrace / courtyard at the front of the house aswell as access to the swimming pool.

The bathroom has a shower, a WC and a basin.

 

Annexe Bedroom 2: First floor Double Bedroom with ensuite

Kingsize double bed. This bedroom has its own access from the drive, even though its in the same building as Bedroom 1 in the annexe. It has double French doors that open to a Juliet balcony that overlooks the pool and pastures beyond.

The ensuite bathroom has a walk-in shower, WC and a basin.

Garden, Grounds, Terraces and Eating Areas

Accessed from the kitchen and the sitting room there is a gravelled courtyard style terrace with a long stone table with comfortable seating for 14 under the shade of a pergola. There is a small additional seating area for 4. From here through a wrought iron gate and down 6 stone steps is the swimming pool.

There is a gas weber BBQ.

Swimming Pool

The heated swimming pool is uniformly 1.5m deep. There are plenty of pool side sunloungers (enough for the whole of the number the house accommodates) with plenty of parasols providing shade if wanted. This is one of the most peaceful swimming pool and house settings from all our portfolio in Provence.  The pool is salt treated, full fenced and has an electrically operated cover.

Location

The closest village to Les Pres de Petarelle is Saignon (3 miles) – also the nearest for croissants and a boulangerie!

Saignon is a commune in the Vaucluse department within the Provence-Alpes-Cote D’Azur region.

The closest town is Apt (4 miles) which is 41 miles east of Avignon on The Rhone.

How to get there

Airports

Marseille (1 hour 20 mins / 50 miles)

Nîmes (1 hour 50 mins / 70 miles)

TGV

Avignon (1 hour 20 mins / 39 miles) – During May to September there is a direct train from London St Pancras to Avignon with a journey time of 6 hours. Please check the Eurostar website for the schedule. 

Things to see and do nearby

Saignon

8 mins / 3 miles

This is the closest village for a baker and also has a few restaurants.

There are spectacular views from here and three castles.

Saignon has the most distinctive outline of any Luberon village in the region, set above the town of Apt.

Apt

12 mins / 4 miles

There is a market here on a Saturday. The old part of the town is a lovely place to walk through and there is a good selection of bars and restaurants.

L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue

45 mins / 25 miles

This is one of the closest places. It has bakeries, boulangeries and a supermarket.

There is a lovely river running through it and there are a great choice of restaurants and cafes along the river.

Bonnieux

20 mins / 8 miles

Bonnieux. There is a market here on a Friday. It has some lovely restaurants, cafes, bakeries and fantastic views over the landscape of the Luberon.

Gordes

35 mins – 17 miles

This village was voted in 2023 the most beautiful village in the world. It has distinct stone hilltop buildings with beautiful narrow cobblestone streets.  In the 10th Century church is the Pol Mara museum, a contemporary Flemish painter. There are also the cellars of the Saint Firmin Palace, a semi-troglodytic site (LINK HERE)

Village des Bories

40 mins / 19 miles

This is an old village built from dry stones in immaculate condition.

Walking

There is a walking path that goes straight past Les Pres Petarelle  without having to get into the car. Follow this path in either direction and you will see some iconic Provence landscapes of the Plateau des Claparèdes, including the lavender fields.

Alternatively, there are Troglodyte water mills in the Forges of Véroncle that can be discovered by foot.

Lourmarin

22 mins – 10 miles

This is another typical perched hill-top village. It has a lovely selection of restaurants and cafes spilling out onto the beautiful streets.

There is a market here on a Friday morning.

This is the home of Albert Camus – the Nobel prize-winning author.

Rousillon

27 mins – 11 miles

There is a market here on a Thursday.

A beautiful and distinctive village famous for its ochre production. The houses are built of varying shades of oranges, yellow and red. Truly beautiful.

Tourist Office

Here is the link to the tourist office in Apt. We highly recommend visiting the local tourist office,  full of good local information and will know what is going on while one is on holiday and really helpful staff too.

Saint-Rémy de Provence

1 hour 1o mins (38 miles)

St Rémy is a very picturesque Provencal town. It is the perfect destination for an ice cream and a wander around its narrow medieval alleyways and boutiques. Not to miss whilst there are the ancient ruins of the Roman city of Glanum.

There are a great selection of restaurants and bars, and the evening atmosphere is great.

Cycling

There are good cycle paths in the region and bicycles can be hired locally although we recommend booking in advance if that is something you would like to do.

Wines and wine tasting

The limestone soils, bathed in sunshine and swept by the Mistral wind, are home to AOC Ventoux and AOC Luberon.

    Additional Information

    Arrival welcome and departure: Tenants will be met on arrival and will be shown how everything works both inside and out.

    Wifi and Broadband: There is broadband internet access throughout the house.

    Housebook: There is a very helpful House Information Book with details of recommended local shops, restaurants, markets, cultural, sporting and recreational activities plus many other suggestions on what to do and where to go in the vicinity. The folder also includes maps, brochures and contact details of local doctors, dentists, plumbers, electricians, pool maintenance and more detailed information on all referred to here.

    Optional / additional services available: There is a conciergerie service available at this property that can help with anything from booking a taxi to organising lessons. However we always recommend booking as far in advance as possible.

    Provided sufficient notice is given, a cook can be found. Her / his payment will be the tenants responsibility and can be ascertained in advance should tenants so wish.

    Utilities: There is a washing machine and tumble dryer.

    Air conditioning and heating: There is no air conditioning in the bedrooms but the walls of the house are so thick that it remains relatively cool without even in the height of summer.

    Car Parking: There is covered parking for 3 cars. We do not recommend arriving in a sports car or any vehicle with low slung undercarriage.

    Electric Vehicle Charging: There is an electric car charging point under cover. The use of this is free.

    Children: There is a cot and a high chair. The swimming pool is fully fenced and has a solid electrically operated pool cover.

    Terms and Conditions

    The Booking Process: A deposit of 25% of the rent will be payable to Anglo French Properties Ltd on signing the Rental Agreement with the 75% balance to be paid 8 weeks prior to the commencement of the tenancy.

    Security Deposit: A Security Deposit will also be payable to Anglo French Properties Ltd. This will cover (a) the cost of telephone calls made on the landline during the tenancy, (b) the cost of replacing/making good any losses, breakages and/or damages incurred during the rental, and (c) any exceptional cleaning work which may be required at the end of the tenancy. It will be refunded (less any deductions as outlined above) within 4 weeks of the conclusion of the tenancy.

    Minimum stay: Unless otherwise agreed, all rentals will be for a minimum of one week and will begin and end on a Saturday.

    Arrival Time and Departure times: Tenants should arrive as soon as possible after 5pm on the commencement day. They will be welcomed on arrival, given a tour of the property and shown how everything works. Tenants should leave by 10am on the agreed day of departure.

    Number of People: Unless otherwise agreed, there should not be more than 14 people staying in the property at any one time.

    Security: The owners’ insurance policy requires that all doors are locked, and that all windows and shutters are closed when tenants are away from the property.

    Energy costs are included: The energy costs are included in the rental price.

    Heating costs are included: The heating costs are included in the rental price.

    Linen and towels: Linen and towels, and the cleaning of the linen and towels are included in the rental price. These will be changed on a weekly basis.

    Smoking: No smoking allowed inside the property. Caution should be taken when smoking outside during the summer months.

    Internet access: Yes, included in the rental price.

    Optional / additional services available: Any additional services, if available, (eg extra cleaning or cooking) will be agreed in advance at a pre-agreed rate per hour. These costs will be the sole responsibility of the tenant.
