Swimming Pool

Steps descend from the top terrace to a wider lower terrace that is dominated by the swimming pool. The alarmed swimming pool with an infinity edge to the southerly view measures an impressive 6m x 13m and is 1.3m at the shallow end and 2.2 at the deep end. There are built in stone steps at one end and stainless steel ladder into the other end. The swimming pool is salt treated.

There is a diving board at the western end of the pool. To the western end of the pool a large paved area provides space for 7 sun loungers under the shade of a generous wide sun umbrella.

Adjoining this access through 3 attractive arches is a cuisine d’été / dining area with a table seating 8.

6 deck chairs provide further seating / relaxing overlooking the pool from the eastern end.

The swimming pool has an alarm.

Terraces, Dining Areas, Gardens and Grounds

The villa is principally orientated to the south. The ground floor of the villa opens to a raised terrace enjoying the best of the south facing views and running the full length of the villa. There is a seating area at the eastern end of the terrace outside the sitting room, a breakfast / dining terrace which benefits from the shade of an electrically operated awning if desired, through an alcove from the dining room. At the western end of the villa is a large square terrace with stone balustrade in which is a large comfortable seating area shaded by a sail shade.

From the kitchen there is a stone pergoda / loggia with a dining table adjoining the same terrace area at the western end of the villa.

Adjoining the swimming pool through 3 attractive arches is a cuisine d’été / dining area with a table seating 8. There is a large stainless steel electric professional plancha by Krampouz which is on a matching stainless steel trolley. It works really well, is quick to heat up, easy to clean and provides all the visual and social benefits of a traditional BBQ

An attractive oak framed loggia (named ‘The Belvedere’) occupies the south western corner of the swimming pool terrace on a slightly lower level. This provides another quiet shaded relaxing area overlooking the rest of the garden.

A narrow-paved way leads to the far eastern end of the lower terrace where there is a boules court that runs beneath the front of the annexe.

Below the lower swimming pool terrace a series of further terraces planted with olive trees descend to the bottom boundary of the gardens.

Things to see and do nearby

Local Markets

Local markets abound in the surrounding towns and villages, the largest and arguably the best of which is in Lorgues on Tuesdays. Draguignan has its market on Wednesdays and Saturdays and Les Arcs on Thursdays.

Local Produce

The local specialities of pottery and Provençal fabrics are widely available in local shops and at the markets. There are also lavender farms which make and sell lavender related products. There are nougat and honey producers in the vicinity as well as the full range of Provencal herbs and spices, all of which can be purchased readily in the markets along with plentiful and excellent ranges of fish, poultry, meat, fresh fruit and vegetables.

Tourtour and Aups

Toutour is known as “the village in the sky” whilst Aups is the truffle capital of France and  has an excellent weekly market. Both make for enjoyable and leisurely local trips.

Salernes

Salernes has numerous pottery shops and an excellent Sunday market.

Lac de St Croix and Gorges du Verdon

1 hour’s drive to the north with excellent swimming from its many beaches in crystal-clear water, as well as wind-surfing, sailing and pedalos. Lac de St Croix is a beautiful location.

Here you can also see the dramatic Gorges du Verdon, known as the Grand Canyon of Europe and providing all kinds of exhilarating pursuits including hiking, canoeing, kayaking, canyoning and mountain biking.

Bicycle Hire

Bicycles can be rented in Draguignan. Bicycles should be booked in advance of your arrival.

They can be rented through Nature Evasion (website here).

There is a great choice of restaurants in the area and a selection is suggested in the House Information Book.

Horse Racing

Cagnes-sur-Mer has a race course which holds meetings, mainly trotting, throughout July and August.

Local fairs and festivals

We recommend visiting the local Tourist Office in Lorgues to find out what is going on while you are on holiday.

For example, concerts at Abbaye du Thoronet, take place throughout the summer.

There are a number of reasonable to outstanding 18 hole golf courses within 30kms. Arguably the best are at St Endréol and Barbaroux.

The Mediterranean beaches of Cavalaire, St Tropez and Cannes are all within driving distance. Ste Maxime is relatively easy to reach even in the busiest months and from here the quickest route to St Tropez is by short ferry trip.

Vineyards are easy to reach in most directions producing red, white and rosé. Many offer tastings and the excellent Maison des Vins at Les Arcs sells a comprehensive selection of the region’s best wines.

Children

For children there are a number of children’s adventure playgrounds and zoos in the area including one near Vidauban which provides a range of activities for all ages.

Tourist Office

There is a Tourist Office in Lorgues and we highly recommend a visit. They have all the local information on fairs, events, concerts and attractions.
