Village Des Bories

If you fancy a spot of sightseeing whilst staying in one our properties in Provence, then why not visit the Village Des Bories?

If you are in the area of Gordes, why not visit the historic Village Des Bories, an open air museum featuring approximately 28 dry stone hamlets or Bories.

Classified as a historic monument, the Bories village provides an insight into what life might have been like in the Provençal past. The origin of the Bories goes as far back as the bronze age although the age of this village itself is often disputed. Some believe it was created around the 7th century after the fall of the roman city of Apta Julia (now Apt), others believe it’s construction must have been much later, either the 15th or 18th century given the money and pottery found on the site.

The official site has more information about the history and restoration work.
